Outback Report – April, 09

6 days and nights camped out in the desert with Ken Duncan and teams from Hillsong Church and Brisbane City Church.

There were Sing along events that went for 8 hours on some nights. Many decisions for Christ and special times of prayer for the sick. All in a hot dry dusty place called “Memories” where a white rock memorial stands with a bold white cross to honour the early black and white skin missionaries who brought the Gospel to the region in the 1920′s.

G’day from Steve,

A young man called Ben came forward at the end of the concert in Bourke, Outback New South Wales and gave his life over to Christ last night.  img_0039

After a 2 day drive to get to Bourke from the Sunshine Coast, Qld, we were weary. Strong head winds and narrow uneven roads made the journey hard work in hot weather.  But the joy of praying with Ben made it all worth the challenges of recent days.  Ben has been on the road travelling for two years in search of meaning and purpose to life.  He was visiting a friend in Bourke who dragged him along to the concert, now he has a new faith in Jesus. Today we head for Broken Hill and onto Alice Springs.

The Hope of Heaven

“Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance, perseverance, character, and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” Romans 5: 1-5

At the age of 9 my life changed forever. My mother started suffering with a mystery illness that the local missionary doctor could not explain. We lived in an isolated missions station called Ukarumpa in the jungle highlands of Papua New Guinea. My parents had served there throughout the 60ʼs with Wycliffe Bible Translators, dedicated to helping the people of this primitive and poor country. They loved the challenges of the work and the adventure of living in the wild, unpredictable culture of this island nation in the South
Pacific. It was home.
