The Old School Bus.
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God this is your spiritual act of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is his good, pleasing and perfect will. Romans 12:1-2
Down by the railway line in the old pioneer town of Truckee, CA is a bus. Built back in the 1960′s with the specific purpose of transporting children from home to school and back … every day… every year.
This reliable old Chevrolet V8 would have driven through driving rain, sleet and snow, forest fire smoke and lots of perfect sunny days faithfully performing its duty of getting kids to school on time, safe and sound.
Today the stationary relic stands as a dinosaur of past times. It’s days of operation are long gone. Eventually it will become an ugly old abandoned wreck and get towed off to the scrap metal yard for the value of the steel it was made from.
I am so grateful that God does not look at our lives like that. As we grow by faith in Christ our lives become richer in His kingdom and the years we have lived become wonderful seasons of wisdom we can pass down to the next generation. God never makes junk. He values us no matter how young or old we are… no matter how many mistakes we’ve made or regrets we have. Once our past is redeemed in Christ we are fully forgiven and God’s restoration process takes place.
So next time you look in the mirror… Give yourself a big smile of gratitude and thanksgiving. God has so much more up ahead for you.
For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God has planned in advance for us to do. Ephesians 2:10
Godspeed,
