Snake Bites of Life

They traveled from Mount Hor along the route to the Red Sea, to go around Edom. But the people grew impatient on the way; they spoke against God and against Moses, and said, “Why have you brought us up out of Egypt to die in the desert? There is no bread! There is no water! And we detest this miserable food!” Then the LORD sent venomous snakes among them; they bit the people and many Israelites died. The people came to Moses and said, “We sinned when we spoke against the LORD and against you. Pray that the LORD will take the snakes away from us.” So Moses prayed for the people. The LORD said to Moses, “Make a snake and put it up on a pole; anyone who is bitten can look at it and live.” So Moses made a bronze snake and put it up on a pole. Then when anyone was bitten by a snake and looked at the bronze snake, he lived. Numbers 21: 4-9

I have the potential to complain a lot. I can look at the world through a half empty cup or one that is half full. I can blame my Irish / Australian / German / Jewish ancestral roots, a lack of finances or influence.. I can blame inaction of others and become angry at God and people. It’s part of my fallen nature that needs to be checked and given over to the Lord on a constant basis. My attitudes can sometimes leave me way out in there in the desert a long way from anywhere. Forgive me for when I get negative. It is a real challenge some times when you know you are called but you’re still stuck in a desert of uncertainty. I’m sure you can relate.

The amazing thing about God is He knows what’s best for us. Sometimes he will allow us to feel the snake bite of our past failures but He will always provide a miracle as we put our faith in him. His intentions are not for us to exist in a wilderness but thrive in His promises and blessings, yet patiently and mercifully the Holy Spirit is at work in us, healing the snake bites of life and preparing us for eternity. Thank God for Jesus… when we look to Him we receive immediate forgiveness of our sin. The sting of death is gone as we trust Him with our lives. Hope and healing are made complete. Faith is made strong when our eyes are set on our salvation in Christ. The power of death is destroyed forever!! Amen

Have a great week!
