The Power of Agreement
From the beginnings of time the spirit of agreement has been God’s way of getting stuff done.
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit agreed together on all aspects of the Genesis story. It is an integral part of all creation and the source of life for each of us in our own lives. The willingness to agree together and to move ahead on the basis of that agreement is crucial to the fulfilment of all we do in life.
When we dwell together in unity God commands a blessing over us. It was so moving last week to see a bride and groom make a covenant agreement together before God and before their families and friends. It challenged me to think about the importance of strong and simple agreements that we make, and the vital need for constant communication.
I know that when Kerrie and I pray together and communicate well in the agreements we make, we are blessed by the Lord. It takes humility, faith and truth to make good agreements. Pride, fear and deception will always try to destroy them but God loves to be part of our agreements. In marriage, in parenthood, in business, in our churches and in mission.
Our agreements with God and with each other make us one. There is great power in that place of agreement. Matthew 19:6 says “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.”
Jesus went to a brutal death on a criminal’s cross in agreement with his Father’s eternal purpose. To see us set free from the curse of sin and death. There was no other way. He fulfilled an agreement that was made long ago to bring us forgiveness, hope, life abundant and the promise of eternity.
My prayer is “Lord help us to be people who live by your word and make good agreements with each other. We need your help with this every day. We all agree that Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to us!! Amen”.
Thanks for your prayers and support as we head off today on a 10,000km tour of Queensland. I better get my bags packed!!!

hi Steve thankyou for your words on the power of agreement. A friend and I used this in prayer to agree on the sale of my house as I couldn’t afford the mortgage any more. that was in January. Unfortunately the house still hasn’t sold and the banks have repossessed it! But I know God is in control and hasn’t forgotten our request. I am looking forward to see what He will do…whatever that is. He is great
