pp310809REMEMBERING 911

Jesus said. “A thief comes to kill, steal and destroy, But I have come that you may have life and have it more abundantly” John 10:10

GROUND ZERO: Traffic congestion and construction crews jam the roads that surround the site of the World Trade Centre. The place where on September 11th, 2001 the world stopped and witnessed unbelievable chaos and calamity. The place and time that changed our world forever.

As we near 8 years of remembering 911 we want to honour those who lost their lives that day and also their families who are still rebuilding their lives.

It is a sad place to visit. New York madly goes about it’s business, the subways crammed with commuters from many nations, tourists clog the footpaths of every street, but the Ground Zero 911 site brings everyone to a subdued quietness. A place of sorrow and loss. A place to reflect and remember. But…., I know that while ever our governments send the military into places where they should be sending missionaries, we will have an escalation of hatred, terror and war. The Gospel instead of the Guns of war. It is as if radical Islam attacked the two things we worship most in the west. Money and power. The World Trade Centre and the Pentagon were symbols of both. My prayer is that we as the church will raise up a generation of missionaries willing to go to the broken and oppressed cultures of the world and be Jesus to them.

God allowed a man called Job in the Old Testament to be attacked by the enemy. Satan relentlessly took his money, his power, his reputation, his family and possessions expecting that Job would betray his faith in God. But this broken man never gave up hope. He was tested in sickness and grief but said these words:
“I know that my redeemer lives and I will stand with Him on that day…”Job 19.25

My prayer for America is that it will once again return to Christ and be a great nation of hope. That it will not rely on the wisdom of politicians but on the revelation that comes from knowing the one true God through faith in Christ Jesus.

I honour those who lost their lives on that day in September.

Godspeed,
