Like the rest of Australia. Kerrie and I sat horrified as the news came through on Sunday.

Overnight firestorms had destroyed many country towns in Victoria with great loss of lives in each region. This will be Australia’s worst ever bush fire disaster. Entire communities completely gone. Severe heat wave conditions have covered the Southern States of Australia over the past week and this tragic ordeal has thrown our nation into mourning. Fires are still blazing as you read these words. If you can imagine complete towns razed to the ground by firestorms near where you live…. That’s what it’s like for many people in the State of Victoria at the moment. Over 108 people confirmed dead and many more missing. Hospital burns wards overflowing with victims from the worst ever fires in Australia’s history. Samaritan’s Purse are assessing ways to assist hundred’s of families who have lost everything and Steve will be visiting the region soon to do some charity concerts.
Ironically, in Northern Queensland towns have been flooded by unprecedented torrential rains. Lives have been lost there as well. Yesterday a young boy was taken by a crocodile and vehicles were washed over flood levee’s. It all seems surreal. These floods have caused damage in epic proportions. Towns are isolated and desperate for supplies and aid. In a matter of a week Australia has been thrown into geographic and economic turmoil.
Pray with us please as we plan to reach out to many of these regions in the coming months. Towns that need the good news of the Gospel and hope to carry on rebuilding their lives.
